Why small projects? Quite honestly I find them more profitable and less stressful. I’m a handyman (Licensed & Insured Delaware Contractor) to avoid additional paperwork, plans, permits, waiting on inspectors and to avoid too much heavy lifting.

Why not a larger construction business? I’ve run small construction crews in the past. The government makes it very expensive to have employees which increases the cost of everything else in the process. Unfortunately a large number of workers who are drawn to construction are not very reliable, simply managing them can be a full time job. When I was younger I wondered why everything was so expensive when I knew it was pretty affordable if I did it myself. The answer is regulation, fees, insurance, licenses and paperwork.

Work I’d prefer not doing:

  • Anything higher than 15 feet, that’s the tallest ladder I have and I’m not a big fan of working on roofs unless they are low and have a low pitch.
  • Yard work.
  • Hauling and moving, unless it’s removing our own mess from a job site.
  • I’m happy to spray an empty room or house with average height ceilings with my paint gun all one color, but my detail work when it comes to painting is not perfect.
  • I’m not a big fan of being in tight, wet, muddy crawlspaces surrounded by spiders and their webs.
